finally admitted defeat: used the last of my bday $$ to treat myself to a new copy of The Hobbit… because my lovely big full-color-illustrated hardcover has been missing for a long-ass time and i really want to reread my favorite book. this is i think the fourth copy of the hobbit i have owned; possibly the fifth. the first one, the one i read in fourth grade, was originally my older brother’s. i didn’t have to go out and buy a copy for class ‘cause we already had one. it was very old, and soon fell apart (it was worn to begin with and i read it like fifty times). after that i had this exact copy… i’m pretty sure i lost that one somewhere. then my gorgeous hardcover… which is out there somewhere, floating in the ether, with my name written inside (i do that with most of my books- especially my favorites). so my hope is that one day someone will find it lying around and see my name inside. i can’t shake the feeling that i loaned it to someone, but no one has it, and everyone i lend my books to is good about giving them back. so maybe the house ate it. i don’t know.
anyway, i was tempted to pick up a copy of one of my other favorite books that have gone missing… like the Metamorphosis. but i figured i should get something i’ve never read before. so i picked up the Shining. i haven’t read a Stephen King novel in a while (not counting when i reread Eyes of the Dragon a month or two ago- first SK book i picked up in years, and it was one i’d already read). plus someone told me it was good. Was it Fergo? methinks it was.
aaaaand that is my chapstick. i can’t live without lip balm. having dry lips drives me up the wall. and a sobe lifewater (which is about as good as vitaminwater, and has some awesome flavors). and that white thing is my sewing machine. like anyone cares.
so there, a little slice of my life.
