Hobbits really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years they can still surprise you.

Spoiler warnings for you guys who haven’t read the book.
The second and third movie hasn’t even come out and I’m already drawing sad things. Soooorry. I’ll draw something happy next time I promise.Large version (tumblr likes to resize images on dashboard)
OMG ~ what have you done to me??? *cries in a corner* That’s why I dread the 3rd movie so much ~ I don’t wanna see this happening in the movie ~ wish PJ would change the movie & not go by the book!!!! TToTT
it is difficult not to think of it sometimes.
like for instance, i’m about halfway through reading my niece the book. we do a chapter a night whenever she is downstate visiting. i wonder how she’ll react. will she cry? i did, when i was her age. hell, i still do sometimes.

this is what you can expect from my twitter:
LET’S BE FRANZ
who wouldn’t do this though?
“Catching up”
Headcanon - Fili, Kili and Gimli grew up together. They were a bit older, and Princes and he just hero-worshipped the both of them. When they went on the quest to Erebor, they told a rather grumpy and jealous Gimli that when they came back they’d tell him all about their adventures.

okay. Tolkien nerds. maybe some of you will know what i’m talking about.
you read the books. you had your favorite characters, things you were interested in, etc. and then the LoTR movies come out. and there is this glorious coming together of nerds.
and you see all these Elf People.
don’t get me wrong. Elrond, Galadriel, Legolas, etc are all awesome characters. but so many people are obsessed with elves. maybe you are one of them. that’s totally cool. i have no problem with you.
but maybe you were like me. maybe you were looking around at all these people gushing over how awesome and perfect the elves are and you’re just like, “… okay?”
and you don’t quite get it.
and you sort of feel a little sidelined because it seems like 90% of the fandom has Elf Hysteria.
and you wonder where you fit in.
and then the first Hobbit movie comes out.
and you’re like “OH MY GOD. DWARVES. THIS IS THE ANSWER. THIS IS WHERE I BELONG. WE ARE DWARF PEOPLE!”
because for all those years you adored Thorin & Company, and Gimli, and even though you loved all the dwarves with a fierce undying affection, you never put it all together. there are Elf People, and there are Dwarf People.
i exclude Hobbits only because everyone loves them. be real, we all wanna be a hobbit. and the Race of Men doesn’t count because that’s what we are already.
but yeah. there was this click. everything made sense.
and maybe i just never saw it in myself because i didn’t know it could Be A Thing. Tolkien himself was an Elf Person. why else would he have written all about every aspect of their culture? so far as i know there is more info on elves than any other of the Free Peoples of Middle Earth. correct me if i’m wrong. maybe it’s just my personal bias and frustration talking but dwarves being secretive isn’t much of an excuse for the dearth of info/notable characters as opposed to other peoples.
and i could go on another rant here. but maybe that’s for another day.
i just want to point out
that in Unexpected Journey
when Bilbo took the contract, and he’s reading it aloud, like, “funeral expenses??”
that was absolutely 100% a reference to the Rankin Bass animated version of The Hobbit, and no one will ever convince me otherwise.
because guess what?
that was not in the book anywhere
there wasn’t even a contract, as such. it was a letter left under his mantle clock in the morning.
and the line is delivered almost exactly the same.
Extended version marathon with the “Lord of the Rings” movies and the “Hobbit” movies
“WITH 7 FULL DAYS OF PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED FOOTAGE”
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN DREAMING ABOUT THAT EXACT THING
okay maybe you do but still

I would say I’m sorry for the quality of this gif but I really am not. This is not a gif for a “wide Tumblr audience” you might say. This is a gif I made just for me, for my own pleasure. Why? Why a crappy gif of Fili picking up Bombur? Because that, my dear follower, that right there is my two favorite dwarves interacting with each other. My two favorites ever since I read the book for the first time, I should add. I love them all dwarves, I love Balin, Kili, of course Thorin, and Bofur. And all of them. But these two? They are the closest to my heart. I had been so worried how they would come out in the movie but boy oh boy I was pleased with the result. And a moment like this? A few seconds of a 3 hour movie? Well, they are golden to me. I love me some Fili & Bombur.
we all had our faves =)
Bombur & Balin were mine…
but i loved all of them so much
